| “Jetboat
the Fraser” Six Day Expedition |
|
TRIP
SUMMARY
This multiday Jetboat Tour incorporates Aboriginal Culture (dip
netting, native sauna, traditional food, song and dance) along with
River Adventure and fun that will leave you with lasting memories.
We give interpretive talks on history and the various cultures that
lived on the rivers throughout time, we will also distinguish the
flora and fauna and wildlife of this beautiful region.
In
this particular trip our playground is the mighty Fraser River.
The Fraser River is 5 times larger than the Colorado River and is
the largest salmon producing river in the world. It also supports
a large variety of animals and birds including the largest California
Bighorn Sheep population in North America, mule deer, black bear,
grizzly bear, cougar, wolf, coyote, fox, bald and golden eagles,
blue heron, osprey, hawks, falcon, river otters and many species
of small song birds.
On
the Fraser River we will experience stunning scenery such as Iron
Rapids, Chilcotin River, Gang Ranch, Churn
Creek Park, Big Bar, China Gulch with their variety of geographical
eco systems. The southern slopes provide a dry arid desert climate
that includes pear cactus and sagebrush and the northern slopes
are much more moist providing many micro-climates with rich forests
of Douglas fir, spruce and pine trees and moss covered areas combined
with rocky outcrops and hoodoos.
All
of this can be explored in the interior of beautiful British Columbia.
You will have a round trip by train, departing from North Vancouver
and arriving in Williams Lake. We will spend five unforgettable
days on the river before departing by train back to Vancouver from
Clinton.

tunnel on the passenger line. You will continue northbound passing
many small streams and rivers, passing through the coastal mountains,
rain forests and pristine glacial lakes. You will get your first
glimpse of the Fraser River after passing through Lillooet. You
will arrive in Williams Lake at 5:25pm. Here, your expedition leaders
will greet you. We will then take a 30-minute drive to Xats'ull

DAY
2
In the morning we will have time to explore Historic Soda Creek
town site and some of its remnants from the 1800s when this
spot was a terminus for sternwheelers. Our Jetboat will arrive coming
downstream just as the sternwheelers did in earlier times.
We
will put our lifejackets on and have a safety orientation, after
we will finally board our modern day Riverboat and head downriver.
We will slice through Soda Creek Canyon and pass by our Teepee Village
a fabulous place for your first photographs. We pass under the Rudy
Johnson Bridge, BCs only privately owned bridge. Then a stop
and look at Russian Island a neat little spot where
a Russian Immigrant once mined for gold, but abandon it about 50
years ago. Along the way we can try kayaking on the calmer waters,
this is easy for beginners. In Flatrock Canyon you will see bald
and golden eagle hovering above the canyon walls. Riske Creek is
where we will make camp tonight. We can do some exploration here
or just relax.
|
DAY
3
After a healthy breakfast its on our way to more exploration.
We keep an eye open for big horn sheep along the steep sandy slopes
as we pass through the largest California Bighorn Sheep Reserve in
North America. We make a few short stops to look at interesting sites
including Chinese Mining, Gold Rush and Native History. Your guides
will explain these sites while your imagination soars thinking about
how these people were so determined to have a better life. Our next
site of interest is Iron Canyon the nicest canyon of them all we turn
around and come back through giving you a second chance to take pictures
and have another white water ride. We will take a short hike to observe
and interpret native petroglyphs (ancient rock art). We will take
a ride up the mouth of the Chilcotin River then we will head to McEwan
Creek where we will make camp we will feast on a freshly caught salmon
for dinner. Our native guides will make a traditional native sauna,
for you to enjoy after the long day of excitement and learning amongst
this breathtaking scenery. This is very relaxing and healthy for your
body and mind. |
DAY

scenery along the Fraser River, it supports numerous types of wildlife
including Golden and bald Eagles, osprey, hawks, black bear, grizzly
bear, bighorn sheep, mule deer, cougars, wolves and many species of
small song birds. We will stop for short hikes along the way to take
photographs and revisit history along the Fraser River, we will also
see various flora and fauna and learn how native people used them
for food and medicine before modern conveniences. We may also explore
Churn
Creek Park, after we will jetboat to Lone Cabin Creek, this is
where we make our camp tonight. |
Day

Today we will be exploring down river, todays highlight will
be visiting China Gulch a red canyon that resembles the red canyons
of Mars. We continue down the Fraser to look at French Bar Canyon.
After our exploration downriver we turn around and whisk you back
upstream where our 4x4 air conditioned van will pick you up and bring
you to a remote teepee camp overlooking the Fraser River. Since this

together while under the stars and surrounded only by nature. |
